Garlic Harvest Season

Our garlic is a thing of beauty this year!

Sylvia has been working hard for this moment when she could clear the harvest in preparation for putting in winter crops probably cabbage while the potato tubs (25 lbs per tub) will be getting more garlic!

 The garlic will cure outside for several weeks before being brought in for final drying where it will be usable through the winter. Interestingly it gets hotter over time.  In the background you can see our winter heat is on site.

Amazing Celestial Events

We have had a tremendous sequence of sky watching this past month.  Most recently was the transit of Venus across the Sun, as seen in the attached photo from NASA. We had a stellar clear day for viewing.

We used welders goggles with a combination of lenses to total a #14 which provided a very clear image of the transit.

Our little town of Langlois, Oregon was also in the prime path for the annular solar eclipse.

Once again we had tremendous viewing conditions, with clouds racing past so you could view without goggles.  The view was similar to this image.  We live in such an amazing world!

Song for a Friend

One of Bob's winter projects is to learn how to play the guitar. Lessons started on Halloween and here is how Bob showed up for the first lesson - no aspirations of grandeur or anything...

Lessons are going well and fortunately, John (our best man at our wedding) is teaching guitar in a manner where a straight line is not the shortest distance to proficiency.  Case in point is this song that Bob wrote lyrics and melody and John  polished it into real music. It is a gift for a friend who was run down by an out of control snowboarder and learned she had lung cancer after the x-rays came back. We call it Marilyn's Song.

Marilyn is in our thoughts and prayers as she enters aggressive chemo and radiation.
