Diva's of Dirt Aide UCM
The orchard at UCM had the great fortune to be pruned by the best this week. Two of the Diva's of Dirt (there are three) spent several hours with clippers in hand giving all the fruit trees in the orchard a haircut, along with "how to" lessons for Bob and Sylvia. Pictured above is Betsy holding her two month old grandchild Pippin and his Mom, Abby (sister Zoe did not make the trip). For those of you who have been to Langlois these are the women who produced Abby's Greens the amazing organic salad blend we rave about. They are a wonderful family who live on the alluvial plain below us. They have expanded their operation and are now known as Valley Flora Farms. Here is a link to their website. http://www.valleyflorafarm.com/
It was a real treat to watch a master at work, finding a healthy form and shape for each tree to grow into and maximize fruit production. She began at the bottom and spiraled her way up the tree. Here you can see Abby beginning the process on the tree planted for Hans, Sylvia's Dad. In true rural fashion we traded their lessons and work on our orchard for our time helping to plant one hundred and ninety trees in their orchard.
